Our First Big Job in Golden, Colorado: Restoring a Home After a Car Crash

The Call That Changed Everything

At Rocky Ridge Handyman, we officially launched our handyman services with an unexpected but major job in Golden, Colorado. A vehicle had crashed into the side of a home at 50 Zeta Street, causing major structural and cosmetic damage to the wall. We were called in as subcontractors by Chaverst Contracting to assess and repair the damage.

For a brand-new company like ours, this was a big opportunity—and a big challenge. We were hired to complete the repairs professionally, quickly, and within a tight schedule. The project involved both interior drywall restoration and exterior siding repair, which gave us a chance to showcase the full range of services Rocky Ridge Handyman can provide.

Step One: Site Visit and Damage Assessment

Upon arrival, we documented the damage thoroughly. The car had impacted the lower corner of the home’s side wall, damaging not only the siding and insulation but also penetrating through to the drywall inside. Debris from the wall and insulation was scattered throughout the interior, and the external corner was completely exposed.

We quickly developed a plan for:

• Removing the damaged siding and sheathing

• Replacing the broken framing and insulation

• Installing new drywall and prepping it for paint

• Rebuilding the exterior corner with fresh siding

• Blending the repair into the existing home exterior for a clean finish

Step Two: Demo Day

We began by carefully removing the damaged sections of the wall inside and out. This meant tearing out sections of insulation, cutting away broken drywall, and clearing the path to expose framing that needed reinforcement. The debris inside was cleaned up quickly to create a safer workspace.

With ladders, power tools, and protective gear in place, we then stripped the exterior siding down to the bare studs. This step gave us clear access to the entire compromised area.

Step Three: Repairing the Bones of the Home

We installed brand-new insulation and ensured that the studs and framing were solid before closing anything up. Moisture barriers were applied where necessary, and our focus was on making the area as strong—or stronger—than it was before.

This job wasn't just about fixing a cosmetic issue. It was about restoring the integrity of the structure while making sure the home was secure, insulated, and weatherproof again.

Step Four: Installing New Drywall

Once the exterior was framed and sealed, we turned to the inside. Our drywall installation had to match the dimensions of the existing wall perfectly. Once cut, measured, and secured, we moved onto the mudding and taping process.

We took care to feather out our compound and hide all seams. After sanding and smoothing, the walls were fully prepped for the next phase of finishing and paint.

Step Five: Exterior Siding and Finishing

On the outside, we matched the home’s siding pattern as closely as possible using durable, long-lasting materials. The color match was spot-on. After measuring, cutting, and nailing everything into place, we applied sealant to ensure it would stand up to Colorado’s wild weather.

From there, we painted the panel to blend seamlessly into the rest of the exterior. Our goal was to leave no trace of the impact behind—and that’s exactly what we did.
